Dubai: Yemen’s Houthi rebels have continued to attack ships in the Red Sea. Whereas America and Britain have conducted large-scale airstrikes on Houthis in Yemen. Despite all this, Yemen has continued to target ships in Middle East waterways. Now an analysis of satellite images taken by the Associated Press (AP) shows that a new airstrip is being built in the entry area of that vital sea route. Regarding this mysterious airstrip, no country has publicly claimed that any construction work is taking place on Abd al-Kuri Island in the Indian Ocean region near the entry point of the Gulf of Aden. But the suspicion is on Yemen only.
Let us tell you that this airstrip is being built in the area of Yemen itself. However, AP’s satellite images show that workers have carved ‘I Love UAE’ shapes in reference to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by heaping dust near the runway. The Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea have become a battleground between the Houthis and US-led forces amid Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Houthis have continued to launch missile and drone attacks in the Red Sea in protest against the surgical strikes in Gaza.
The airstrip being built after American action surprised everyone
The construction comes as clashes have erupted over the presence of Emirati troops in the Socotra island chain and separatists it supports in southern Yemen. Also when America and Britain have retaliated against the attacks on the Houthis in the Red Sea. The UAE said in response to AP’s questions on Thursday, “Any UAE presence on the island of Socotra is on humanitarian grounds and is carried out in cooperation with the Government of Yemen and local authorities.” (AP)
