Kolkata. Veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah is seeking public support for his niece Saira Shah Haleem. Saira is a CPI(M) candidate in the by-polls to West Bengal’s Ballygunge assembly constituency to be held on April 12.
Saira Shah Haleem is contesting against Babul Supriyo of Trinamool Congress.
In a video message on Monday, the actor said that I am not a member of any political party. I am personally asking for votes. Would you choose someone who changes political ideology frequently or someone who stands with the people? I am seeking support for Saira Shah Haleem in the Ballygunge by-election.
“I have known her since childhood. However, except for my family ties, I have always considered her to be an honest and understanding person. She and her husband are running the hospital for the sake of the common people. He is kind.”
Without naming names, the actor also ridiculed the Trinamool Congress candidate.
Do you want your representative to be a caring, kind and committed person who will work for you, or would you prefer a turncoat opportunist who is also a serial hate monger?
Saira Shah Haleem’s husband is senior CPI leader Fuad Halim, whose father is late Hasim Abdul Halim, who was the former Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from 1982 to 2011.
Bypolls to the Ballygunge assembly constituency are being held due to the sudden demise of Trinamool Congress MLA Subrata Mukherjee on November 4, 2021.
The BJP has fielded former journalist Kiya Ghosh.
Recently, Naseeruddin Shah’s wife, Ratna Pathak Shah also issued a similar video message seeking support for Saira Shah Haleem.
