new Delhi. The National Medical Forum has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the medical students evacuated from Ukraine to be treated as war victims. The letter written to PM Modi said, “These displaced have faced compulsion and the unfortunate war between the two countries (Russia and Ukraine) resulted in loss of useful employment and living opportunities for these displaced students and Thus these displaced students should be treated as war victims in the context of the Geneva Convention.”
Speaking to -AnyTV News, National Medical Forum President Dr. Prem Agarwal said, “Merely bringing students from war-torn areas will not help them. They are war victims. We have to make a one time special clause for them to complete their studies. Will happen.”
Agarwal said the forum would also file a petition in the Supreme Court to declare them war victims.
The letter further said, “Due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, there has been massive destruction and loss of lives in all the cities of Ukraine, leading to the exodus of Indian medical students from that country. These students were not involved in the war but were living in the war zone and thus at high risk of hostilities.”
However, now that they have lost the opportunity to complete their education and useful employment, the Forum has requested the government to declare these forced migrant students as war victims, so that the community can help them accordingly.
