Indian Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar on Sunday stressed the need for building collective maritime capacity to ensure safety and stability at sea. He said that it is impossible for any one nation to counter the growing international threats. Therefore, to play a constructive role in building collective maritime capability, India has prioritized certain elements.
The Navy Chief said that India wants to make a real contribution to a freer, more open and increasingly inclusive world. He said, “Prosperity, security and development of all through mutual cooperation is our inspiring motto. The focus is on safety, security and stability at sea.
Admiral Hari Kumar addressed an international conference on oceans as part of the ongoing MILAN-2022 in Visakhapatnam. The theme of the address was “Harnessing Collective Maritime Potential through Cooperation”. The Navy Chief said the sea is the lifeline of global trade and prosperity. It also said that the responsibility of the navies should not be limited to protecting the business of their country.
He said that navies should act as collective watchdogs and like-minded navies should share their expertise, experience and resources in managing global wealth. The Navy Chief said that India has prioritized certain elements to play a constructive role in building collective maritime capability, including supporting the use of the capabilities of friendly navies.
The first session of the conference was addressed by India’s National Maritime Security Coordinator Vice-Admiral (Retd) G Ashok Kumar, US Admiral Samuel J Paparo, Australia’s Vice-Admiral Michael Noonan, Bangladesh’s Commodore Shaheen Rahman and Japan’s Admiral Y Hiroshi .
