We are aware of the growing demand for subcompact SUVs in the Indian car market, with millions of customers turning to this segment every month. While many automakers moving in this direction have introduced their vehicles, now under the partnership of Toyota and Suzuki, there is talk of a new sub-compact SUV, which will be based on Maruti’s popular hatchback Baleno. According to the report, the carmaker will soon launch 4 new products in India. One of these four vehicles will be a sub-compact-SUV based on the Maruti Baleno that will be sold by both the partners (Maruti & Toyota).
Under this new strategy, an MPV (codename – 560 B) can also be launched, which will be pitted against the Kia Carens. Currently, the SEV based on Baleno is being codenamed as ‘YTB’. Codenamed ‘YTB’, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno-based SUV will first be launched by Suzuki and is likely to be launched by Toyota later this year.

Let us tell you, the price of Maruti Baleno has been fixed from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Maruti Baleno is sold in four trims Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Mild-hybrid technology has also been used in this car with 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.2-litre DualJet engine. In terms of mileage, Maruti claims a mileage of 21.01kmpl for the petrol-manual variant of the Baleno.
The Maruti Baleno is capable of delivering a mileage of 19.56kmpl on the CVT variant. However, the mild-hybrid powertrain claims a mileage of 23.87kmpl. For the time being, it has to be seen how long the upcoming sub-compact SUV with the partnership of Maruti and Toyota comes in the market. If the report is to be believed, then this new car will be launched in the Indian market as a competitor to the Punch, so obviously its price will be within 6 lakhs.
