London: The National Investigation Agency on Thursday arrested a person in connection with the attack on the Indian High Commission in London in March last year. The arrested man was detained at Attari border while entering India from Pakistan last year. Official sources said that Inderpal Singh Gaba, resident of Hounslow, West London, has been booked under Section 13(1) of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act and Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was arrested in India on Thursday in connection with the crimes committed.
What is in the NIA report
According to the report filed by the NIA after the attacks, two major violent protests took place in front of India House in London on March 19 and 22, 2023. A large group of protesters attacked Indian officials on 19 March, damaged the High Commission building and desecrated the Indian national flag. According to the report, on March 22, they raised anti-India slogans, insulted the Indian national flag again and behaved unlawfully and made threats. Sources said that as part of the investigation, several suspects were interrogated and seizures were made after searches at 31 places in Punjab and Rajasthan. Sources said that an investigation team of NIA had also visited London.
Look out circular issued
LOC (Look Out Circular) was issued against many suspects including Inderpal Singh Gaba. Gaba was detained at Attari border on December 9, 2023 when he entered India from Pakistan. As part of the investigation, his mobile phone was seized and data was extracted and analyzed. The issue of violent protests in March last year was raised several times in the British Parliament and since then the Indian High Commission in London has been under security by the Metropolitan Police.
Help sought from common people
The NIA had released five videos in June last year and sought help from the general public to identify persons involved in the violent protests. An NIA team had come to London to collect information related to the case and had talked to Scotland Yard officials. Language
