Abuja. Nigerian police have confirmed an explosion at an oil plant in the southern state of Imo, which is believed to have killed at least two people. Police spokesman Mike Abattam in Imo told reporters in the state capital Oweri that an explosion occurred early Wednesday at a facility operated by a local oil firm in the city of Izombe in the state’s Oguta local government area.
Police have started an investigation into the blast, which was caused by two suspected attackers, Xinhua news agency reported. Abattam said police personnel have been deployed in the area to “prevent the breakdown of law and order”.
Local media quoted workers at the facility as saying that two suspected attackers were killed as an explosive device detonated while they were trying to find their way into the flow station through the entrance.
