New Delhi. Despite the global pandemic Corona, 2021-2022 was great for Uttar Pradesh in terms of exports. During April 2020-2021 to March 2021-2022, UP’s exports increased from Rs.107423.5 crores to Rs.140123.5 crores. This is an increase of about 30 per cent in totality. In this export, ODOP is of one district, one product related goods. Exports have increased by 2747 percent in the projects Goods for Special Purpose.
ODOP has potential to be the growth engine of the economy
The export share of Chief Minister’s flagship scheme ‘ODOP’, which was launched on the first foundation day of Uttar Pradesh in January 2018, is noteworthy in itself. This is also an indication that ODOP can become the growth engine of Uttar Pradesh’s economy in the coming times. Not only this, ODOP will also play an important role in the goal of one trillion dollar economy that Uttar Pradesh has set. In view of this, work is also going on. For example, according to the products of the districts, common facility centers are being set up there under one roof keeping in mind the interest of all the stakeholders involved in these products. Out of these, 5 are ready. Some will be ready soon. CFCs of some districts are also to be launched soon.
Target to double exports in five years
Keeping in view the possibilities of ODOP, the government has set a target of doubling its exports and employment generation in the next 5 years. It is to be known that during the first term of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, about 25 lakh people got employment/self-employment at the local level from ODOP. Yogi Sarkar 2.0 aims to double the export as well as employment or self-employment opportunities in the next five years. According to Navneet Sehgal, Additional Chief Secretary MSME, “As per the intention of the Chief Minister, through ODOP, a planned effort is on to export ODOP products and double the employment/self-employment opportunities in the next 5 years.
In some districts other products have also been selected under ODOP scheme. CFCs are to be set up in all such districts keeping in view all the stakeholders involved in ODOP. 5 are ready. Something is pending. Some are in the process of approval. Training work is also going on in a phased manner to ensure that ODOP products are competitive in price and quality in the national and international markets.
