Dhanalakshmi did her PT at National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala. Usha’s record in 200m heats and also won gold in 100m against Dutee Chand. In the 100 metres, she won the gold with a time of 11.39 seconds, and in the 200 metres, she set a new record with a time of 23.26 seconds, breaking Usha’s 23.30 seconds record 23 years earlier.
Dhanalakshmi was a kho-kho player in her early days and a physical education teacher at school suggested her to switch to sprint and she has trained under Indian Railways athlete, Manikand Arumugam.
