New Delhi. BJP MP from Kota-Bundi parliamentary seat of Rajasthan, Om Birla has created history. He is the first MP who has been elected Speaker of the Lok Sabha for the second time. Om Birla was made the candidate of the BJP-led NDA alliance. PM Narendra Modi proposed to make Om Birla the Speaker of the Lok Sabha when the proceedings of the Lok Sabha started at 11 am. Apart from Modi, all the constituent parties of the NDA including Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah also proposed in favor of Om Birla.
At the same time, opposition leaders including Congress proposed to make 8-time MP K. Suresh the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, but Protem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab passed the proposal in favor of Om Birla by voice vote. After which PM Narendra Modi and Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi reached Om Birla sitting in the House. Modi and Rahul Gandhi congratulated Om Birla and took him to the Speaker’s seat of the Lok Sabha.

Om Birla has been an MP from Kota-Bundi seat for 3 consecutive times. He was elected MP from Kota-Bundi seat in 2014, 2019 and again this time i.e. in 2024. All three times Om Birla defeated Congress candidates. Before becoming an MP, Om Birla was also an MLA in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly for a long time. He also held important posts like Vice President and President in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Om Birla likes to take the youth along. Along with this, Om Birla is also an environment lover. He has shown by running the Parliament efficiently in the last 5 years. His decisions were supported by the ruling party as well as the opposition. After Om Birla was elected Speaker of the Lok Sabha, now it remains to be seen who gets the post of Deputy Speaker. The opposition is demanding the post of Deputy Speaker for itself. Whereas, there is news that BJP is going to give the post of Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha to its ally TDP.
