Riyadh. Saudi Arabia will allow one million domestic and foreign pilgrims to attend Mecca in the upcoming Haj season this year. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah made this announcement on Saturday. The decision is aimed at enabling the largest number of Muslims around the world to perform pilgrimage rituals, Xinhua news agency quoted the ministry as saying.
The ministry said that the pilgrims coming to perform Haj should be below 65 years of age and should be fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine.
It said foreign pilgrims would have to submit a negative PCR test within 72 hours before traveling to Saudi Arabia.
According to the ministry, in 2021, around 60,000 pilgrims visited the holy city of Mecca, while in 2019 the number stood at 20.5 lakh.
