Operation Ganga Updates: The Government of India has almost completed the evacuation of Indian citizens who arrived in neighboring countries from Ukraine. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that about 5,280 children had reached Hungary after leaving Ukraine. He was deported to India from Budapest airport on Saturday night. There are plans to send 890 children by 5 more flights on Sunday. He said that Operation Ganga is in its final phase and the work of bringing back almost all the Indians has been completed. In a second statement, the embassy said that the Indian Embassy today began its final phase of Operation Ganga Udan. The embassy states that all students residing in their own accommodations (other than those arranged by the embassy) are requested to arrive at Hungaria City Center, Rakozy UT 90, Budapest between 10 am and 12 noon.

But still many Indian students are stuck in Ukraine. As the war situation worsens, it is becoming increasingly difficult to expel them from the cities of Ukraine. The Indian Embassy in Kyiv on Sunday asked all Indian nationals living in Ukraine to fill up online forms on an “urgent basis”. The official Twitter account of the embassy posted a Google form asking for basic details like name, passport number and current location. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, almost all Indians have been evacuated from the war-torn regions of Ukraine, Kharkiv and Pisochin, but some Indians are still trapped in Sumi. The Ministry of External Affairs is busy making arrangements to evacuate the stranded Indians.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said, “Evacuation of Indians from Sumi is challenging as there is continuing shelling and violence and lack of means of transport.” Without giving any details, he said that India is looking at various other options to evacuate the students.
A large number of Indians have been brought back by special flights from neighboring countries of Ukraine under Operation Ganga. The Government of India has sent four of its Union Ministers as Special Envoys to the Prime Minister to coordinate operations in neighboring countries of Ukraine. On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that more than 19,000 Indian citizens have been evacuated from war-torn Ukraine as part of Operation Ganga.
