Government land was occupied long back
The people of these classes were in possession of about four thousand acres of land in the state for many generations. Now these people will be given the ownership rights of the land after paying proper compensation. This bill was passed in the Punjab Assembly in the year 2020 during the time of the then Congress government. Now the Aam Aadmi Party government had also approved this bill, then it was sent to the President for final approval. From where the approval has now been received.
Economically and socially weak tenants will become empowered:
It is being said that the law will empower the tillers of such land, who belong to the economically and socially weaker sections of the society. These tenants have been occupying small pieces of land for many years and get their rights as heirs from generation to generation. Since they were not registered owners, they could neither take loans from financial institutions nor get relief in case of any natural calamity, but now they would get all the benefits like other landowners.
