Pakistan’s Government Postgraduate College Timergara has issued strange instructions. The girl students have been instructed to refrain from participating in political events, birthday celebrations and other activities during their visit to the campus, Dawn newspaper reported. Chief Proctor of the college, Professor Riyaz Mohammad, has formally issued these instructions. It has been said in the instructions that it is in the interest of the girl students to follow the local customs.
Professor told the right decision
According to Dawn news, Riyaz Mohammad has justified the decision by citing the incidents that have come to light in co-education institutions. He said that the aim of the college is to prevent such incidents. Professor Riaz has also urged the parents to maintain communication with the college administration. Professor Mohammed explained the directives at an event held at the Government High School Adam Dharai in Adanzai area.
Women are discriminated against
Well, the reality is that Pakistan is one of the most challenging countries for women to live in. Here women are deprived of social rights and are discriminated against. Cases of murder, rape, kidnapping, spousal abuse, forced marriage and forced abortion are common in Pakistan. It is a bitter truth that Pakistan is the sixth most unsafe place for women. Many national and international studies confirm the insecurity of women in Pakistan.
Women find themselves marginalized
The 2018 World Economic Forum report says Pakistan ranks 148th out of 149 countries in terms of women empowerment, reports The Nation. Most troublingly, women here often find themselves culturally marginalized, especially regarding their roles in education, reproduction, and domestic duties. Female literacy is 45 percent, compared to the male literacy rate of 69 percent.
Situation is worrying in Pakistan
According to The Nation report, gender inequality is a global concern but its impact is extremely worrying in Pakistan. Ignorance and biased attitude are the major reasons behind this. Illiteracy of parents and wrong religious interpretations regarding women play an important role in this inequality. The latest example of this are the instructions issued in Government University Timergara.
