Islamabad. Pakistan National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri on Sunday rejected the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, saying it was against Article 5 of the Constitution. This information has come out from the report of Dawn. Suri presided over Sunday’s session after opposition parties filed a no-confidence motion against Speaker Asad Qaiser.
Opposition MPs first appeared confident of the success of the no-confidence motion as they made their way to it.
To remove the premier through a no-confidence motion, the opposition needs the support of at least 172 MPs out of a total of 342.
As per the list shared by PML-N’s Maryam Aurangzeb on Sunday, as of now the opposition parties have managed to cross the magic figure of 172 and get the support of 174 members in the NA.
Ahead of Sunday’s session of the NA, the opposition also moved a no-confidence motion against Speaker Asad Qaiser.
The proposal, addressed to the secretary of the NA Secretariat, was presented by PML-N’s Murtaza Javed Abbasi.
The resolution had the signatures of more than 100 MPs.
