One of the deadliest attacks, 62 killed
It was one of the deadliest attacks in the troubled region bordering Afghanistan. In the incident, a suicide bomber belonging to the ISIS-Khorasan blew himself up inside a mosque at Qissa Khwani Bazar in Peshawar, capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital spokesman Muhammad Asim said the death toll rose to 62 on Saturday after five more people were injured in the blast. This number may increase.
Suicide bomber carried out the blast
In a video message shared on Twitter, Ahmed said police and investigative agencies would reach out to the suspects in a day or two. Peshawar SSP (Operations) Haroon Rashid Khan said it was a suicide blast. He said there were two attackers but only one of them was a suicide bomber. An eyewitness, identifying a man dressed in black as a suicide bomber, said he entered the mosque, first shot dead the security guard and then fired five to six shots.
The eyewitness told Geo News that he then quickly entered the main hall and blew himself up in front of the pulpit. After this there were dead bodies and injured people everywhere. According to the news of the Dawn newspaper, as soon as the news of the bomb blast spread, many people, including women, rushed to the mosque to inquire about the well being of their family members, who had gone there to offer Friday prayers.
