Islamabad. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Pakistani media has challenged Prime Minister Imran Khan to substantiate his “reprehensible allegations” that media houses have been bought by political parties and that some are being funded from foreign sources. This information was given in the report of Dawn. Khan made these allegations in a public address on Sunday.
The JAC said in a statement that the statement of the Prime Minister was tantamount to accusing the media of corruption.
He challenged that if these allegations could not be proved ‘within a reasonable time’, the committee reserves the right to approach the judiciary for relief.
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has also apologized to the Prime Minister over the allegation that media houses are receiving funds for “anti-government campaigns”.
In a statement, PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar and General Secretary Nasser Zaidi expressed their displeasure over the ‘baseless comments’, saying, “It is surprising that the government is using a public forum instead of making baseless allegations against the media and journalist fraternity.” and are ordering an inquiry.”
He urged Khan to order an inquiry through the FIA or a judicial commission instead of spreading “fake news”.
