Palestine Prime Minister: Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh on Monday announced the resignation of his government, which rules parts of the occupied West Bank. “I submit the resignation of the government to Mr. President (Mahmoud Abbas),” Shtayyeh said. He said this resignation has been given in view of the ‘aggression against the Gaza Strip and developments related to tensions in the West Bank and Jerusalem’.
The President will decide whether the resignation will be accepted or not.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh says his government is resigning, which could open the door to US-backed reforms in the Palestinian Authority. President Mahmoud Abbas must still decide whether he will accept the resignation of Shtayyeh and his government on Monday. But the move signals a willingness by the Western-backed Palestinian leadership to embrace change that could usher in the reforms needed to revitalize the Palestinian Authority. The US wants a reformed Palestinian Authority to rule Gaza after the war ends. But many obstacles remain in realizing that dream. It is noteworthy that Palestine is continuously putting Israel in the dock regarding the ongoing war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas. The reason is that a large number of ordinary Palestinian citizens also live in Gaza where Israel is carrying out rapid attacks.
Former Israeli PM had said this on relations with Palestine
Earlier, the former Prime Minister of Israel had given a big statement on the history of relations between Israel and Palestine. Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on February 24 that Israel and Palestine lost a historic opportunity to achieve peace after the 2008 Gaza ceasefire. Olmert cited Hamas’s attacks as a reason for failing to maintain peace. However, the former Prime Minister also said that he is not a supporter of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “We missed our opportunity as a result of Hamas’s deadly and precipitous attacks,” Olmert told the Firstpost Defense Summit.
