New Delhi. As Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his mother recalled their visit to the Taj Mahal, the world’s richest man was asked on Tuesday by Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma to deliver the first Tesla car at the historic monument.
“When are you coming here to deliver the first Etdrate Tesla at the Taj?” Sharma asked Musk on Twitter.
This was in response to Musk’s reply to a follower, who on Monday shared a picture of the Agra Fort and tweeted, “Amazing facade detail of the Red Fort in Agra, India.”
Musk replied, “It’s amazing. I visited in 2007 and also saw the Taj Mahal, which is truly a wonder of the world.”
His mother May also shared an interesting anecdote with photographs about Musk’s grandparents, who flew to the World Heritage Site in Agra in 1954 on their way from South Africa to Australia.
Sharma, however, cautioned Musk about the challenges of building full-automatic cars on Indian roads because of the risk that ‘most unruly road users’ run into. “Building FSDs for India will be an incredible challenge for Tesla. We are known to be the most unruly road users,” he said.
This is not the first time that Musk is being bullied for his plans to set up a Tesla factory in India.
Several states in India have invited Tesla to set up their manufacturing plants.
In January, Telangana minister KT Rama Rao invited Musk to set up Tesla’s factory in Telangana. Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil also offered the Tesla chief to set up manufacturing in the state for electric cars.
However, Musk has said that he is facing challenges from the government to release his products in India.
He had posted, “Tesla not yet in India due to ‘challenges with government’.”
Musk has said he wants to launch the cars in India, but the country’s import duty on EVs is the ‘highest ever in the world’.
