Prohibition on arrest till March 25
Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court on Friday restrained the Pune Police from taking any action against Rashmi Shukla till March 25. A bench of Justices SS Shinde and Nitin Borkar said that Shukla should be given protection from arrest till further orders, as prima facie it appears that he was alone named in the FIR. The court took note of the argument of Shukla’s counsel and senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani that though the alleged incident of illegal phone tapping took place three years ago, the FIR of the Pune Police was registered only on February 25 this year. Shukla was posted as the Pune Police Commissioner from March 2016 to July 2018.
