Chandigarh Haryana Environment and Forest Minister Rao Narbir Singh instructed the officials to implement the Van Mitra Yojana more effectively to make plantation a mass movement. He said that now forest friends will be able to plant saplings not only on private land, but also on the land of the forest department.
The minister gave these instructions while presiding over the review meeting organized with the officials of the Forest Department in Chandigarh today. Additional Chief Secretary of the department Anand Mohan Sharan, Principal Chief Conservator and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
Forest friends will get honorarium on time
The Forest Minister clarified that there should be no delay in monthly honorarium of Rs 15,000 to forest friends and it should be released immediately.
In the meeting, the minister was informed that 70 thousand youth had registered on the portal under the Van Mitra Yojana launched in the year 2024 and they dug more than two lakh pits, out of which 2598 youth were given ‘Van Mitra’ status after living in 10 pits.
New system of verification should be done
The minister directed that instead of geo tagging, DFOs, Conservator and Forest Guards will personally verify and monitor pits and saplings. With this, the work of forest friends will be properly evaluated and their honorarium can be issued in a transparent manner through DBT.
