Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the second Global COVID Summit that the world’s largest COVID vaccination campaign is still going on in India. About 90 percent of adults in India have already been fully vaccinated. Along with this, about 50 million children have also been vaccinated. We use traditional medicines to save thousands of lives in India. Along with this, India also made a low-cost COVID testing kit.
He also said that with this we have sent about 200 million vaccine doses to 98 countries. The Genomics Consortium of India has contributed to the Global Database of Viruses. We will extend this network to our neighboring countries. PM Modi informed that India manufactures four vaccines approved by WHO and has the capacity to produce 5 billion doses this year. Last month, we laid the foundation stone of the WHO Center for Traditional Medicine in India with the aim of making our age-old knowledge available to the world.
The PM also said in the address that there is a need to improve and strengthen the WHO. India is ready to play an important role in this endeavour. For this, we must build a resilient global supply chain and enable access to vaccines and medicines. During this, PM Modi said that as a responsible member of the global community, India is ready to play an important role in these efforts.
