New Delhi. The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha began on 24 June. The Rajya Sabha session is also starting from today. Today, President Draupadi Murmu will deliver her address in the joint meeting of both the houses. President Murmu’s address may contain details of the work to be done in the third term of the Modi government as well as information about the important steps taken by the government in the last 10 years. This address of President Draupadi Murmu will be discussed in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. PM Modi will reply to the debate on the motion of thanks on the President’s address on July 2 in the Lok Sabha and July 3 in the Rajya Sabha.
Obviously, during the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address, the opposition will raise questions on the functioning of the Modi government. There is every possibility that the opposition will corner the Modi government on the issues of violence in Manipur, unemployment, inflation, maintaining the constitution and other issues. This time Rahul Gandhi has been made the leader of the opposition. In such a situation, there are chances of Rahul Gandhi making sharp attacks to corner PM Modi and BJP. At the same time, PM Modi will respond to the attacks of the opposition. Earlier also Modi has been responding to such attacks of the opposition in the Parliament on the basis of his data and knowledge of the facts.
Modi government has won on one front for now. This front was the election of Lok Sabha Speaker. The opposition may have fielded K. Suresh as its candidate, but could not defeat NDA in the numbers game. It is believed that Modi government will defeat the opposition in the voting after the motion of thanks on the President’s address. The reason for this is that the government has the support of 293 MPs. Which is more than the majority figure of 272. Whereas, the opposition has only 233 MPs.
