In response, PM Modi suggested that such questions should be directed towards the opposition, implying that it is they who are resorting to such labels. He criticized the Congress party and its allies within the India coalition, questioning when they would move on from their family-centric politics. PM Modi highlighted that the entire campaign of the Congress party has centered around the Gandhi family.
In a special interview with News18 India, PM Modi was once again asked about the opposition calling him a dictator. Pointing to examples of family-centric campaigns in various states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, he reiterated that this question should be asked of the opposition. He stressed that it is the responsibility of the opposition and the media to question such practices.
PM Modi further said that he does not see being associated with a family as a flaw but is proud of it. He said that the greatest asset of democracy is when individuals give priority to their country rather than their family. PM Modi concluded with the sentiment that one who considers his nation as his family truly wins.
