Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to hold a rally in Punjab’s Ferozepur on Wednesday. But the program was canceled at the last minute. The reason for the cancellation of the program was previously given due to bad weather. But now security reasons are being cited as the reason behind this. A Home Ministry statement said that the rally in Ferozepur was canceled due to breach in PM Modi’s security. A reply has also been sought from the Punjab Government in this regard by the Ministry of Home Affairs. BJP has also demanded the resignation of CM Channi in this matter. Significantly, before the assembly elections to be held in Punjab this year, the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was very important.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has been said that PM Modi had reached Bathinda in the morning. From there he had to fly by helicopter to Hussainiwala National Martyrs Memorial. But first PM had to wait 20 minutes due to rain and low visibility. Then when the weather remained bad, he decided to go by road. Which was supposed to take about 2 hours. This information was given to the DGP of Punjab Police and necessary security arrangements were approved. A flyover was also coming on the way the Prime Minister was supposed to go. The protesters had blocked the road on this flyover. PM Modi’s convoy was stuck on that flyover for 15-20 minutes. The Home Ministry is considering this as a big lapse in the security of PM Modi.
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) says it is taking cognisance of this serious security lapse has sought a detailed report from the state government. State Government has also been asked to fix responsibility for this lapse and take strict action.

The Home Ministry said that the Punjab government had already been informed about PM Modi’s travel plan. Keeping this in mind they had to make proper preparations, arrangements and security arrangements and also be prepared for contingencies. In view of the contingency plan, the Punjab Government wanted to make additional police arrangements on the road which was not done. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, while addressing everyone on the stage in Ferozepur, said that the rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been postponed due to some reason. However, he will soon address an election rally in Ferozepur.
It is pertinent to mention here that PM Modi was to lay the foundation stone for several development projects worth over Rs 42,750 crore. These projects also include the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. This was Modi’s first state visit after the repeal of the new agriculture law. They had also left for Ferozepur but the rally had to be canceled due to security reasons.
