PM Modi and Sam Pitroda
Sam Pitroda has once again been appointed as the President of Indian Overseas Congress. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has given this responsibility to Sam Pitroda with immediate effect. During the Lok Sabha election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said in an interview that Congress will reinstate Pitroda after a few days. Now Congress has done so and PM Modi’s prediction has come true. During the Lok Sabha election, Sam Pitroda compared South Indian people to Africans and Northeast Indian people to Chinese people. Pitroda has also said that people of Western India look like Arabs. Whereas, people in the North look like whites.
After the controversy over Sam Pitroda’s controversial statement, he was removed from the post of President of Indian Overseas Congress. After the elections are over, he has been given this responsibility again.
What did the PM say?
During the Lok Sabha elections 2024, there was an uproar over Sam Pitroda’s statement and he resigned from the post of President of Indian Overseas Congress. After this, in an interview, PM Modi said, “Sometimes I feel that the party makes a plan and lets out some tricks through such people. I don’t think they would be doing it on their own. Because, when there is a ruckus, they expel them from the party for a few days, then they (the expelled leader) remain in the mainstream of the party. They have made Sam Pitroda resign now and after a few days they will give him the same post again. This is their (Congress) well-thought-out strategy, in which they keep doing such tricks like creating confusion, changing the environment, adding new issues.”
What did Sam Pitroda say?
Apart from comparing people from different regions of India with people from different countries, Sam Pitroda also suggested inheritance tax. He said that such a law exists in America. Sam said that in America, a person can transfer 45 percent of his property to his children. The government takes the remaining 55 percent. Pitroda said that you have created wealth for your generation. You should leave your wealth for the public, not the whole, but half, which seems fair to me. He said that such a law does not exist in India but such a rule should be made here as well.
What was the Congress’s reaction?
Congress distanced itself from the controversial statement of Sam Pitroda. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had said that the analogies given by Sam Pitroda to India’s diversity are absolutely wrong, unfortunate and unacceptable. He had said that Congress completely disassociates itself from these analogies and refutes them.
