New Delhi. Following prompt action by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force arrived at Delhi’s Palam airport today, bringing back bodies of victims of the Kuwait fire tragedy. Heartbreaking scenes were witnessed upon arrival of the bodies as family members mourned for their loved ones. The aircraft was diverted to Kuwait on the Prime Minister’s orders. BJP MPs Yogendra Chandeliya, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Bansuri Swaraj and other leaders were present at the Palam Technical Airport to receive the bodies.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said such a process usually takes at least 15 days. However, under the instructions of Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, they were able to swiftly bring back the bodies of 45 Indians. He described the incident as a tragic one. Prime Minister Modi was very concerned on hearing the news and immediately convened an emergency meeting to address the needs of the victims in Kuwait, following which Singh was sent to Kuwait City. “Our Foreign Minister spoke to the Foreign Minister of Kuwait and we also met their Health Minister. Their assistance was invaluable. We also met the injured in hospitals and spoke to their doctors, who assured us of the recovery of the patients,” Singh said.
The injured will be discharged soon
Singh said that most of the injured Indians being treated in Kuwaiti hospitals will be discharged in the next one or two days, with only one person remaining in critical condition in the ICU. The smoke from the fire affected the lungs of many people, causing serious health problems, while some people suffered fractures in their hands and legs. All are currently undergoing treatment. The Indian Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and is in touch with the injured. Even before Singh’s team arrived, Prime Minister Modi had spoken to the Emir of Kuwait and other officials, which helped a lot in providing assistance to the victims.
