Chandigarh. A fierce clash broke out between the Shiv Sena and Khalistan supporters on Friday near the Kali Mata temple in Patiala, Punjab. To control the situation, the police had fired in the air and a 24-hour curfew was imposed. Now taking a big action on the matter, the state government has transferred the police officers. Also to prevent the spread of rumours, the government on Saturday ordered suspension of mobile internet services and SMS services in Patiala district.
An official statement said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the government has transferred Inspector General of Police (Patiala Range), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Superintendent of Police (SP).
A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Mukhwinder Singh Chinna has been appointed as the new Inspector General, while Deepak Parik and Wazir Singh have been appointed as the new SSPs and SPs.
Witnesses told the police that the Nihangs marched towards the dargah raising pro-Khalistan slogans. Police said a police officer was injured while trying to stop the Nihangs.
Shiv Sena working president Harish Singla led the anti-separatist march from Arya Samaj Chowk to Kali Devi Temple. They were raising slogans against Khalistan.
Singla said, “Shiv Sena will not allow Khalistan to be formed in Punjab or anywhere in India.
He also said that banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu had called for celebrating Khalistan Foundation Day on April 29. In protest against this, Hindu organizations are organizing a bandh in Patiala on Saturday.
