Bhubaneswar. Eminent Odia musician and Padma Shri awardee Praful Kar passed away on Sunday night. He was 83 years old. According to family sources, Kar breathed his last at his residence in Satya Nagar, Bhubaneswar. He was suffering from age related ailments. His last rites will be performed with full state honors at Puri Swargdwar on Monday. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has asked two ministers – Pratap Jena and Sameer Ranajan Das – to be present during the last rites in Puri. According to the information, Kar, born in 1939, is survived by his wife Manorama and three children. He was an accomplished musician, writer and columnist. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015 for his contribution in the field of art and music.
Kar has composed music for over 70 Odia films and lent his voice to several films, albums and radio programmes. He became famous from house to house with his song ‘Kamla Desh Rajkumar’.
