Former Union minister Shatrughan Sinha, who recently switched from Congress to Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, has revealed that election strategist Prashant Kishor was instrumental in his move.
Let us inform that well-known actor Shatrughan Sinha left Congress and joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday. He gave this information by tweeting. Earlier, Mamta’s party had declared her as its candidate for the by-election from Asansol Lok Sabha seat.
In an interview to NDTV, Shatrughan Sinha said that election strategist Prashant Kishor and former Union minister Yashwant Sinha played a key role in his joining TMC.
It was a great honor and opportunity for me to join Mamata Banerjee. Her party wanted me, she tweeted that I should be in Trinamool and contest from Asansol parliamentary seat. My elder brothers Yashwant Sinha and Prashant Kishor played a very important role.”
Asked why he left the Congress, Sinha said he doesn’t think it is the right time to talk about what went wrong in the party. The former Union minister said, “There were many things. I do not want to criticize the Congress at the time of crisis. My focus is completely on the choice of Trinamool, Mamata Banerjee to fight from Asansol.”
Significantly, the Trinamool Congress has decided to field actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Singh and former Union minister Babul Supriyo as its candidates for the by-election to the Asansol Lok Sabha seat.
Babul Supriyo had resigned from his Lok Sabha seat Asansol last year. Later he left BJP and joined Trinamool Congress. Therefore, the by-election has been announced when his seat is vacant.
