After a long time, tolls are set to be imposed on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. It is expected that this time toll collection will start from April 1.
According to sources, it has also been made clear by the Ministry of Road Transport and NHAI Headquarters that toll collection will be done in a time bound manner. There will be no change in the date. Therefore, all the preparations related to toll collection will be kept solid. No official date has been announced regarding toll collection yet, but a notification may be issued in one to two weeks.
There is also a possibility that the toll rates may be revised. That is, those traveling between Delhi to Meerut may have to pay a toll of more than Rs 140. It is worth noting that NHAI had sent a proposal for toll collection on Delhi-Meerut Expressway in August last year. In it, a toll rate of Rs 140 per car (one way) was proposed. At that time, the ministry had refused to approve the toll proposal, saying that the second phase of the expressway (UP Gate-Dasna) was not yet complete.
ANPR camera trial started
On December 19 last year, the proposal for toll collection was approved, but the toll collection was stopped on the day. On April 1, the expressway will complete one year open to traffic. So now the headquarters also does not want to delay it. Anyway, from April 1 across the country, NHAI revises toll rates and issues tenders for recovery. Therefore, this time there is a strong possibility that toll collection may start from April 1. In view of this, NHAI has also started the trial of Automatic Number Plate Reader Camera (ANPR) installed on the expressway.
