Three amended criminal law bills were recently passed in the winter session of Parliament. These bills have been approved by President Draupadi Murmu on 25 December. According to news agency PTI, the Indian Judicial Code, Indian Civil Defense Code and Indian Evidence Bill have been approved by President Draupadi Murmu. In such a situation, the way for these bills to become law has now been cleared. In such a situation, now the Indian Penal Code will be replaced by the Indian Justice (Second) Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) will be replaced by the Indian Civil Defense (Second) Code and the Indian Evidence Act will be replaced by the Indian Evidence (Second) Code.
President approves three criminal laws
Let us tell you that on December 20, these three bills were passed in the Lok Sabha through voice vote. After this, all three bills were sent to Rajya Sabha, from where they were passed on 21 December. The bills were passed in the Rajya Sabha by voice vote after being introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said in his concluding remarks that these three history-making bills have been passed unanimously. They have thrown off the shackles of the colonial legacy of our criminal jurisprudence which was harmful to the citizens of the country.
143 MPs were suspended
Let us tell you that this was the same period when 143 MPs were suspended from both the houses. In fact, on December 13, there was a lapse in the security of Parliament. After this, the opposition was continuously demanding discussion in this matter and the opposition demanded that Amit Shah should give his statement on this matter. Let us tell you that there was continuous controversy on this issue, after which MPs were suspended continuously for several days. Altogether 143 MPs were suspended in the winter session.
