A massive bomb blast took place in the premises of the District Court of Punjab on Thursday. Two persons were killed and five others were injured in a bomb blast at the washroom on the second floor of the court complex at around 12.22 am. On reaching the spot, the police got the court vacated and cordoned off the entire area.
According to media reports, lawyers’ strike is going on inside the district court. Due to this, the crowd in the court was less as compared to other days. The reason for the blast is yet to be ascertained.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullad said that the situation in the court premises is controlled and that at present, Bomb Squad and Forensic Team have been called from Chandigarh for investigation. Giving a statement about the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that as elections to the Punjab Assembly are approaching, anti-national elements are doing such acts.
On the other hand, former CM Captain Amarinder Singh has also advised the police to get to the bottom of the matter. According to media reports, the lawyers present in the court premises claim that it is a bomb blast. However, the police is still investigating the entire area. The sound of the blast was heard up to a kilometer away from the court.
