Chandigarh. In the case of a breach in the security of PM Narendra Modi, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has approved action against all top police officers, including the then DGP of the state, Siddharth Chattopadhyay. This matter is of January 2022. According to a letter from the Punjab government, apart from the then DGP, CM Mann has also ordered action against the then DIG of Ferozepur, Inderbir Singh and SSP Ferozepur Harmandeep Singh Hans. Apart from these, clarification has also been sought from all other police officers as to why action should not be initiated against them. See which officers have been named by the Punjab government in its letter.
There was a breach in Modi’s security when he was going to Firozpur in Punjab during the farmer’s movement. Modi’s convoy was stopped by the agitators on a flyover. At that time the CM of Punjab was Charanjit Singh Channi. Modi’s convoy was halting at the flyover for about 20 minutes. After which, seeing the security threat, Modi returned to Delhi without holding a public meeting. At the airport, he told the minister of the then Congress government of Punjab to thank his CM that I could return alive.
The matter was taken up to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had set up a committee to investigate. This committee had recommended action against the concerned police officers. In the past, the Central Government wanted to know from the Punjab Government what it had done on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Committee regarding the breach in Modi’s security. After this, now the Punjab government has issued an order to take administrative action against senior officers including the then DGP. Strict action can be taken against these officers, because the matter is a threat to the security of the Prime Minister.
