Chandigarh. Fulfilling AAP’s promise, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday directed the state finance department to release Rs 50 lakh compensation to the family of deceased PRTC driver Manjit Singh, a frontline corona warrior. The previous Congress government had given Rs 10 lakh to the family of Manjit Singh, who died of a heart attack on April 26, 2020. He played a key role in transporting stranded Sikh pilgrims from Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded to Punjab amid the lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This led to a state-wide protest by the Punjab branch of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), demanding Rs 50 lakh as compensation for the family of driver Manjit Singh.
Notably, the Aam Aadmi Party led by Bhagwant Mann at that time strongly opposed the apathy of the Congress government and demanded Rs 50 lakh for the family of the 38-year-old driver, a resident of Badbar village in Barnala district.
