The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has banned three history books for allegedly distorting facts related to the history of Sikhs. Punjab Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hare said on Sunday that action would be taken against authors and publishers who allegedly distorted facts related to Sikh history in books.
In a tweet, the education minister said, “Sikh history is invaluable to all of us and the generations to come. In the class 12th book Punjab ka History, wrong facts related to the history of Sikhs were presented. On the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, orders have been issued to take action against authors and publishers and ban the use of books.
He said that the main objective of the government is to provide good education to the students and make them aware of the history of Sikh Gurus, Sikh world and Punjab. The books that have been banned include Modern ABC of History of Punjab by Manjit Singh Sodhi, History of Punjab by Mahinderpal Kaur and History of Punjab by MS Mann for Class 12.
These books have been published by three different publishers of Jalandhar. The decision to ban these books has been taken after a report of an inquiry committee. The inquiry committee was constituted following a complaint by farmer leader Baldev Singh Sirsa, who said that these books contain some comments which are not in line with the history of the Sikhs. PSEB Chairman Yograj Singh on Sunday confirmed that three books have been banned for tampering with facts.
