The mortal remains of Kashmiri Pandit Rahul Bhat were cremated at the Ban Talab crematorium here on Friday morning amid slogans of ‘Rahul Bhat amar rahe’, ‘Pakistan murdabad’ and ‘BJP hi-hi’. Kashmiri Pandit Rahul Bhat was killed by terrorists inside the tehsil office in Chadoora, Budgam on Thursday. Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh, Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and Jammu District Commissioner Avani Lavasa were present at the crematorium.

Sunny, brother of the deceased Rahul Bhat, lit the pyre of the brother. Meanwhile, members of the Kashmiri Pandit community expressed their anger over the brutal killing and demanded protection for the Kashmiri Pandits living in the Valley. “Kashmiri Pandits should be provided foolproof security at one place and given jobs in adjoining areas of Kashmir. Rahul was murdered by those who want to promote and establish Ghazwa-e-Hind. It has to end at once and for ever.”

Wife said – Pandit becoming a scapegoat
Rahul Bhat’s wife Meenakshi Bhat said that Pandits are becoming scapegoats in Kashmir. He said that Kashmiri Pandits who have gone for jobs since 2010 are on the target of terrorists. He said that several requests were made to the District Collector to transfer him, but it was not done. Because of this, his terrorists took their lives. Had he been transferred, he would not have been killed.
Another local Rakesh Bhat said that the Pandits should not be sent back to Kashmir but should be kept in safe camps in Jammu. He said, “Rahul’s murder is yet another selective murder of a law-abiding civilian. It has instilled fear among other Pandit employees of the Valley, who no longer feel safe there.” He said that the government has made Pandits as scapegoats for the gun-wielding freaks in the Valley.” Bhat said that the entire Pandit society is shocked by this heinous crime.
“Until the slogan of independence is not over, the Kashmiri Pandits should not return”
He said, “I strongly appeal to LG Manoj Sinha to wipe out terrorists and their sympathizers. Until these slogans of azadi are not over, Kashmiri Pandits should not return to Kashmir and if they have to do so, they should be given foolproof security. should be given.” Rahul’s father Bitta Ji Bhat said, “My son’s killers should be brought to justice”.
After migrating from the valley in the 90s, Rahul lived with his family in Durga Nagar here. Rahul was appointed in 2011 under the Prime Minister’s employment package and since then he was living in Sheikhupora with his wife Meenakshi and minor daughter Gungun. His brother Sunny is also working in the police department.
How did the terrorists enter the government office?
Rahul’s father said, “I want a thorough probe into how terrorists barged into a government office and shot dead my son. The government talks of rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley, but its own Pandit employees are not safe in government offices.
Earlier on Friday morning, angry people jammed Janipur road and demanded justice for the family. Preliminary investigation revealed that two terrorists were involved in the heinous crime and had used a pistol to kill Rahul Bhat.
