New Delhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will leave Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala and represent Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh in the lower house of Parliament. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will contest from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat vacated by Rahul Gandhi. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge gave this information on Monday. Kharge was talking to reporters after the top leadership of the Congress discussed the issue at his residence here.
The Congress president said, “Rahul Gandhi has won from two Lok Sabha seats, but according to the law, he has to leave one seat. Rahul Gandhi will keep the Rae Bareli seat with himself and we have decided that Priyanka will contest from Wayanad.” Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary KC Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were also present during the discussion.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi won two Lok Sabha seats (Wayanad and Rae Bareli) in the 2024 general elections, after which there was speculation about which seat he would retain. However, Congress’ Kerala unit chief K. Sudhakaran had already indicated that the Congress leader would leave the Wayanad seat and this happened.
In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi won a big victory in the Wayanad constituency, defeating his nearest rival and CPI candidate Annie Raja by a margin of 3,64,422 votes. Rahul Gandhi also contested from Rae Bareli seat and won. He retained the traditional seat of the Gandhi family by defeating BJP candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh by a margin of 3,90,030 votes.
