New Delhi. Terming the short-term ‘Agneepath’ scheme of army recruitment as an insult to the youth who dream of protecting the army and the country, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that the opposition alliance at the Center ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (INDIA) With the formation of the government, this scheme will be immediately canceled and the old recruitment process will be restored.
Congress has also promised to end this scheme in its election manifesto. Rahul Gandhi posted on social media platform ‘X’, ‘Agneepath scheme is an insult to the Indian Army and the brave youth who dream of protecting the country.’ He claimed that this is not a plan of the Indian Army but a plan made in the office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which has been imposed on the Army.

The Congress leader said, ‘Martyrs cannot be treated differently, every person who makes supreme sacrifice for the country should get the status of martyr.’ He also said, ‘As soon as the opposition alliance ‘India’ forms the government, we will immediately cancel this scheme and re-implement the old permanent recruitment process.’
The Agneepath scheme, announced by the Center on June 14, 2022, has been brought to recruit youth in the age group of 17½ to 21 years in the army for only four years. After four years, there is a provision to retain 25 percent of these in the army for the next 15 years.
