Raipur. Surrounded by seven states, Chhattisgarh is fast getting caught in the web of drug smuggling. After the destruction of other means of income of Naxalites, drug addiction has become the main source of income. Hemp produced in the forests of Odisha is being sent to Delhi-Mumbai via Chhattisgarh, while the supply of drugs has also increased to push the youth of the state into drugs.
Within a week, 23 cases registered under the NDPS Act and more than a thousand cases of liquor smuggling are confirming that if administrative action is taken, more cases will come to the fore. Adolescents and youth of the newly wealthy class are being trapped in the intoxicant web of opium, charas, ganja, alcohol, drugs, intoxicating injections and tablets.
Activism has increased after strict instructions from Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, but the target is still far away. No specific information has been received from the arrested smugglers yet. The gravity of the situation can also be understood from the fact that for the first time in the state, Narcotics Cell has to be formed.
On one hand, the activity of Naxalites is a big reason behind the increase in drug trade in the state for the last few years, while its border with seven states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra is also a big reason for smugglers. is proving to be helpful.
The people of Chhattisgarh are relatively calm in nature, but due to the activities of smugglers, criminal incidents are also increasing rapidly. The desire to earn more in less time is misleading even those who believe in hard work. The craving is creating a big problem. Many such cases have come to the fore that the drugstore operators started selling drugs. Such an environment will have to be discouraged in the interest of the state.
The law against hookah bars can be considered an important step in this direction. Some basic steps have to be taken to make Chhattisgarh state free from drugs. Health facilities will have to be developed for the de-addiction of those who consume alcohol, tobacco and drugs. Steps will have to be taken in the direction of rehabilitation, establishment of drug de-addiction centers and prohibition at the government level.
There is a need for institutional and procedural reforms in policing. Information exchange and intelligence network with neighboring states will have to be strengthened. Cooperation from the side of the society is also expected. Supporting people struggling with drug addiction can give them a new life. Awareness, cooperation with strong will power is very necessary to get rid of addiction.
