Jodhpur. After riots on the occasion of Ram Navami in Karauli, Rajasthan, a day before Eid, a violent clash broke out between two communities over flag hoisting issue in Jodhpur on Monday midnight. There was heavy stone pelting from both sides. The police had to lathi-charge to handle the situation. At present, the internet service has been stopped in view of the tension. According to the police, people from a community wanted to hoist a flag bearing Islamic religious symbol instead of the saffron flag at Balmukund Bissa circle of Jalori Gate Chowk. This was opposed and then violence started. There are also reports of injuries to several people and policemen in stone pelting.
Jodhpur’s divisional commissioner Himanshu Gupta ordered the shutdown of internet service in the entire district in view of the tension following the violence. Violence has taken place in Jodhpur many times before. In such a situation, it is seen a very difficult time for the administration to keep the atmosphere right at the time of Eid. According to the police, when she reached the spot, there was a lot of stone pelting. Four policemen including two SHOs were injured due to stone pelting. There have also been reports of injuries to the media persons covering the incident.
A large number of police have been deployed in the entire city and district on account of Eid. The police have asked both the sides to exercise restraint. For the time being, it is learned that some people had put up a saffron flag on account of Parashuram Jayanti and after removing it, the other side put a flag with Islamic symbol. Many people were arrested in that case.
