NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar has resigned from his post. Suman Beri has been appointed as the new Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog in his place. Rajiv Kumar was appointed as the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog in the year 2017. The chairman of the NITI Aayog is the Prime Minister.
Who is Suman Beri?
Suman Berry, who was the Chief of the World Bank, is an Indian economist. Suman Berry has completed her graduation from Oxford University and her master’s degree from Princeton University. Suman Berry is currently working as a Non-Resident Fellow of an economic think-tank in the Belgian capital, Brussels. Suman Berry has worked in the World Bank for about 28 years. Apart from this, he has also been a member of the Statistical Commission of India to Monetary Policy and the Technical Advisory Committee formed by RBI.
Significantly, Arvind Panagariya was made the first Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog by the government. NITI Aayog used to be Planning Commission earlier but after the formation of NDA government in the year 2014, its name was changed to NITI Aayog. Rajiv Kumar was made the second Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog after Arvind Panagariya. Prior to this, Rajiv Kumar was the Secretary General of FICCI. Rajiv Kumar has also served in the Ministry of Finance from 1992 to 1995 as an economic advisor. Apart from this, he has also worked as the Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank.
