new Delhi. The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday expressed grief over the crash of a China Eastern Airlines plane in which 132 people were on board.
Soon after the House met at 11 am, Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu informed the House about the accident that happened in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday, following which the members observed silence as a mark of respect.
“This House joins me in expressing its deepest sympathies and sorrows on the loss caused to the people of China and shares India’s stand with them in this hour of grief,” he said.
The Boeing 737 aircraft of China Eastern Airlines had taken off from Kunming and was on its way to Guangzhou. The accident occurred on Monday in a mountainous area near Molang village in Tengjian County.
There were 123 passengers and nine crew members on board the plane.
