Honor to Ratan Tata: Ratan Tata, one of the country’s biggest industrialists, has been honored with a doctorate degree by the HSNC University of Mumbai at the age of 84. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and HSNC University Provost Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani were also present on the occasion. This was the first convocation of this university where Ratan Tata was awarded this degree while honoring him for his work. Wanted to become an architect but father…
Ratan Tata told during a seminar that as a child he aspired to become an architect but he studied engineering to honor his father Naval Tata. Ratan Tata was born on 28 December 1937 in Mumbai. While discussing about his student life in the seminar, Ratan Tata had told that in the year 1959, he got an engineering degree from Cornell University, after that he wanted to make his future in the field of architecture.
Joined Tata in 1961 and succeeded in 1991
After completing his studies, Ratan Tata did an internship and in the year 1961 he joined the Tata group of internships. In the beginning of his career, Ratan Tata used to remove limestone on the steel floor and operate the furnace. Ratan Tata carried forward the Tata Group by holding many important positions for almost 30 years and in the year 1991 he became the Chairman of the Tata Group.
There was opposition to becoming the group president
In 1991, JRD Tata stepped down as the chairman of Tata Sons and named Ratan Tata as his successor. As soon as Ratan Tata took over, he faced heavy opposition in the company. After this, when he became the chairman, he had to face opposition from the heads of many companies. The protestors were associated with the Tata Group for several decades and were very influential. Ratan Tata fixed the retirement age to deal with such people and started removing them from the posts.
Ford had insulted Tata Tata took revenge like this
The Tata company had a business of vehicles and in the year 1998, Tata launched the Indica car, it was Tata’s dream project. Tata Indica has flopped and Tata suffered a lot in it. On the suggestion of the people, Tata reached the Ford Company of America for the purpose of selling this car company, where he had a meeting of Ford Company officials for several hours. In this meeting, Ford Chairman Bill Ford treated Ratan Tata very badly and said when you do not know how to make a car, then why did you spend so much money on the car company? After this Ratan Tata felt himself very humiliated. Ford said, “We are doing you a huge favor by buying this company.”
In 2008, Tata replied to Ford
Ratan Tata canceled that deal with Ford and returned to India and focused on Tata Motors. He left the deal and returned with his team, where he turned his attention to Tata Motors. After years of hard work, he relaunched Tata Indica and this time the company gave tremendous profits. On the other hand, due to the flop of Jaguar and Land Rover, the Ford company had collapsed in the market, due to which the company reached the verge of bankruptcy. In 2008, Tata sent an offer to buy both companies to Ford, which Ford immediately accepted and said, “You are doing us a huge favor by buying our company.”
Know the big achievements of Ratan Tata
Ratan Tata took Tata to new heights during his tenure, he increased the income of the company by 40 times during his tenure of 21 years. As soon as Ratan Tata took over as the chairman of the Tata Group, Tata Motors bought several companies along with Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Steel, after which the Tata Group emerged from a major brand in the country and entered a global business. 65 per cent of the Tata Group’s revenues came from businesses spread across nearly 100 countries. Ratan Tata was honored with Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2000 and Padma Vibhushan in 2008.

If we talk about education, then Ratan Tata has got many degrees even before this. Ratan Tata received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Canada’s prestigious York University for his drive to promote innovations and his sense of social responsibility under his leadership. He was awarded a Doctorate in Automotive Engineering by Clemson University in 2015 and an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering from Swansea University in 2018. Apart from this, recently, Manchester University of UK also honored Ratan Tata with a doctorate degree.
