Bengaluru. Despite trying their best to win the Indian Premier League title, the performance of the team Royal Challengers Bangalore, which remained away from it, has been disappointing this time too. The team’s all-rounder surprised everyone by suddenly deciding to take a break from the tournament. Glenn Maxwell has decided to take an indefinite ‘mental and physical’ break from the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to his poor form in batting.
Maxwell was not included in the playing eleven for RCB’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. The reason for this was said to be a finger injury suffered during the last match against Mumbai Indians. But later Maxwell accepted the decision to drop himself from the team. Maxwell said in the press conference after the match, “It was a very easy decision.” After the last match, I went to captain Faf du Plessis and the coach and said that maybe the time has come to try someone else in my place.
He said, “This is a good time to give yourself some mental and physical rest and keep your body fit. If there is a need to include me during the tournament, hopefully I can come back in a strong state mentally and physically and make an impact.
This is the second time in Maxwell’s career that the all-rounder has decided to quit competitive cricket for his own mental and physical fitness. Maxwell had taken a similar break in October 2019 also. Then he said that he needed rest mentally and physically. After a few months, this 35 year old player made a comeback. In the current season of IPL, he has not been able to make any significant contribution with the bat in six matches, he has scored only 32 runs at a strike rate of 94. In fact, out of these, he scored 28 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders.
