According to official information, in the last 6 years, railways has abolished more than 72 thousand posts.
According to official records, most of these posts belong to Group C and Group D which have now become redundant due to modern technology. It is clearly written in the record that there will be no future recruitment on the above posts. CPI-M’s Rajya Sabha MP on Saturday wrote a letter to the Union Railway Minister regarding the recruitment on these posts, requesting to reinstate the abolished posts in the Railways.
MP Dr. V Sivadasan has written in the letter that ‘I would like to draw your attention towards the crisis being faced by the job aspirants in Indian Railways. Recent reports reveal that the country’s largest employer, Railways, has eliminated over 72,000 vacancies in the last six years, most of which were Group C and D posts.
Quoting documents, he further wrote that it is understood from the documents that 16 zones of railways have surrendered 56,888 posts during the financial year 2015-16 to 2020-21, out of which 15,495 more are scheduled to be done. While the Northern Railway has surrendered more than 9,000 posts, the South Eastern Railway has left around 4,677 posts. Southern Railway has eliminated 7,524 posts and Eastern Railway over 5,700 posts.
He further wrote – As you know, recently crores of youth of India were forced to protest against the inordinate delay in railway recruitment in many parts of the country. In such a situation, eliminating such a large number of railway posts would be like sprinkling salt on their wounds. So I request you to consider the plight of the Railway job aspirants and look into restoring the canceled vacancies.
