Helpful in promoting overall growth and development of Ladakh, Leh and Kargil regions
New Delhi, July 22 (IANS)| The Central Government has approved setting up of a Central University in Ladakh at a cost of 750 crores. According to the central government, this will help ignite the intellectual skills of the local youth, facilitate the creation of a knowledge-based society and promote the overall growth and development of Ladakh, Leh and Kargil regions. On the approval of the Central Government, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the establishment of the university is welcome. This will remove the regional imbalance in higher education in line with the new education policy and open new opportunities for the youth.
A comprehensive initiative named PM Vidya has been launched which aims to integrate all efforts related to digital, online, on-air education to enable multi-mode access to education. The initiative includes all types of digital modes to provide wider reach. Other TV channels including Diksha (Online), Swayam (Online), Swayam Prabha (TV), Doordarshan and Akashvani network access. In addition, guidelines were issued to the states to facilitate continuing education through various mediums.
The guidelines, inter alia, cover situations where internet connectivity is not available or is available with very low bandwidth. These resources are shared through various platforms like television, radio etc which are not dependent on the internet. An alternative academic calendar has been designed to provide learning solutions for classes 1 to 12 for children both with and without a device. Apart from these, community radio, supply of worksheets and text books at learner’s residence, home visits by teachers, community classes, toll free numbers, SMS based requests for audio material, local radio material for education etc. have been used .
