Aizawl, October 23 (IANS) | The Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested a man in North Mizoram’s Kolasib district and recovered heroin worth Rs 6 crore from him. Officials gave this information on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, para-military forces laid a trap in Chinluang village along National Highway-306 on Friday evening and detained 47-year-old drug smuggler Ramnithanga, a BSF spokesperson said. 808.6 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession.
The arrested person along with the confiscated drug has been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department for further legal action under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities suspect that the drugs were smuggled from neighboring Myanmar. Drugs specifically heroin and the highly addictive methamphetamine tablet, also commonly known as ‘yaba’ or ‘party tablet’ or ‘WY’ (the world is yours). It is a synthetic drug that contains a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine and several other narcotics.
