New Delhi, July 27 (IANS)| Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said the Delhi government has decided to recommend the names of doctors and health workers for this year’s Padma awards. Every year, the Center asks states and union territories to recommend names of individuals for Padma awards – Padma Vibhushan (second highest civilian award), Padma Bhushan (third highest civilian award) and Padma Shri (fourth highest civilian award). ). It is given in honor to people for their exceptional services.
Kejriwal said that doctors and health workers are risking their lives for the last one and a half years and many people have even lost their lives while serving in Kovid care centres. During a press conference, Kejriwal said that this is an opportunity to honor the doctors and health workers who have saved many lives amid this COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the Delhi government has decided to send only the names of doctors and health workers to the Center for this year’s Padma awards.
The Chief Minister has appealed to the people of Delhi to recommend the names of doctors and health workers who have done exceptional work during the pandemic. Kejriwal said the name of a doctor or health worker has to be recommended along with address details and detailed description of the exceptional work of the name suggested for the Padma awards.
For this, the Delhi government has also constituted a screening committee under the supervision of Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. After getting the names from the people, the screening committee will verify the facts given about the particular doctor or health worker and then the list will be sent to the center by September 15. Earlier, Kejriwal had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to confer the country’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ to a doctor this year.
