Gorakhnath Math has a different role in UP politics. In the current era, the politics of UP is incomplete without the discussion of Gorakhnath temple. This is the temple which Yogi himself has been maintaining. But at the moment he is leading the BJP in the UP elections. Before the counting of votes, Yogi first reached this temple on Thursday morning and offered prayers.
The Gorakhnath temple spread over 52 acres has great importance in the politics of Purvanchal. It is said that the eternal flame is burning in the temple since Treta Yuga. The discussion of Gorakhnath temple also becomes necessary in the UP assembly elections, because when CM Yogi Adityanath himself is contesting the assembly elections in Gorakhpur.
At present, this Math is the center of the politics of UP, but for a long time not a single leaf moves in the politics of Gorakhpur without the consent of Gorakhnath Math. How important it is, it can be understood from the fact that in 2002, when BJP decided without the consent of Yogi, he fielded his candidate in the electoral fray under the banner of Hindu Sabha.
This was the first time that the Math was openly supporting a Hindu Mahasabha candidate against the BJP. The BJP, which was winning from this seat for four consecutive times, fell face to face. The election gave a message to the BJP high command that Yogi and his math have power in the politics of Gorakhpur.
Keep in mind that on the other hand the results of the assembly elections held in 5 states including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab are coming today. Ahead of the counting of votes, many leaders are reciting pujas and praying for their victory. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi bowed before the election results at the Gurdwara in Ropar. Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat also offered prayers.
